Introduction
Berghof Peace Support (BPS) is governed by a Board of Directors and benefits from an internationally acclaimed Advisory Board, which offers high-level practical experience and strategic advice on our current and future directions.
Board of Directors
The BPS’ Board of Directors is responsible for the overall management of the organisation. The three board members communicate regularly and meet at least once a year. They are:

Advisory Board
The central purpose of our Advisory Board is to offer strategic advice and recommendations to our Board of Directors. It meets once a year and the members serve for a term of four years. Currently, the members are:
Dekha Ibrahim Abdi
Consultant on peace, conflict and development issues based in Mombasa, Kenya. She is the founding member of the regional Coalition of Peace in Africa (COPA) and the Global Peace Practitioners Network ACTION (Action for Conflict Transformation).
Dr. Dieter Boden
Ambassador (ret.). Germany’s Permanent Representative at the OSCE (2002-2005). Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Georgia (1999-2002).
Prof. Diana Chigas
Project Co-Director, Reflecting on Peace Practice Project (RPP) at CDA Collaborative Learning Projects, Cambridge, USA. Professor of the course Practice of Conflict Resolution at The Fletcher School, Tufts University, Medford, USA.
Prof. Horst Fischer
Director of the German Technical Cooperation (GTZ) in Brussels. Chair of the Board of Trustees, Berghof Foundation for Conflict Studies. Academic Director, Institute for International Law of Peace and Conflict, Bochum (currently on leave).
Markus Heiniger (Chair)
Special Adviser for Peacebuilding in Nepal, Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs; Deputy Head, Peace Policy Section, Political Affairs Division IV, Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, Berne, Switzerland. He is a historian.
Dr. Barbara Müller
Consultant in organisational development, founding member of the Institute for Peacework and Non-violent Conflict Transformation. (IFGK), Germany. She was the former coordinator of the German Platform for Peaceful Conflict Management.
Dr. Paikiasothy Saravanamuttu
Executive Director, Centre for Policy Alternatives in Colombo, Sri Lanka; co-convenor of the Centre for Monitoring Election Violence (CMEV); founding member of the board of the Sri Lanka Chapter of Transparency International; Ph.D. from the London School of Economics.
